Diet Typing allows us to test your Blood pH (is your blood alkaline or acidic?) and glucose (how fast do you process your foods).

These two tests will determine what types of foods you need to be eating more or less of.

Understanding The Lion Diet Type
Lions feel better on a high protein, much lower carbohydrate diet.
The Hauser Lion Diet Type 60% protein / 25% fat / 15% carbs

The Lion Diet is typically recommended therapeutically for people whose
Diet Typing results show abnormalities in both the glucose tolerance test and blood pH.

Two different patterns of glucose tolerance results both need the Lion Diet. A “true” Lion will be a fast oxidizer of food and have acidic blood pH. The second pattern, which is quite common in overweight America, also has acidic blood pH, but the glucose tolerance test shows a slow oxidizer with high insulin levels (insulin resistance). This person also needs a Lion Diet to regain insulin sensitivity. Thus, the Lion Diet is very high in protein and fat, with a very small amount of carbohydrates. Eating these foods regularly (every 3-4 hours, even including a snack before bed) helps to prevent blood sugar swings, raise blood pH, and lower insulin levels, thus, trying to normalize the Lion's abnormal physiology.

What Does It Mean To Have Acidic Blood?
We describe your blood pH as acidic, normal, or alkaline. We test your blood pH using a CLIA (laboratory governing body) approved machine that is used in most Intensive Care Units in America.

Venous Blood pH below 7.364
Our pH machine at Caring Medical is calibrated so that if your blood pH reads below 7.364 you are considered acidic. Be aware that this may vary if you are reading literature, or getting tested from another source or institution. Also, we are talking about VENOUS BLOOD pH…not urine or saliva pH. Keep that in mind if you are researching pH.

Effects of Acidic Blood
Low Energy

When you are outside of the normal range for blood pH, the amount of ATP you produce will decrease. ATP is a chemical compound that stores a lot of energy. Produce little ATP, you feel tired.

What to do
Fats and proteins, meaning meat, eggs, oil, and nuts just to name a few, are foods that will help increase, or alkalinize an LIONs blood pH. However this is not always the case due to other factors that we test.

Don’t forget the effect that temperature has on your blood pH. People with acidic blood tend to be cold. So they crave hot weather. Heat will alkalinize the blood pH. So sitting in a hot tub or sauna is always an option!

Should I Eliminate Carbs Completely?
A lot of people lose weight by following a low carbohydrate, high protein diet such as the Atkins Diet. Many people have nearly completely eliminated carbohydrates from their diets. We find that the Lions are the most restricted in carbohydrates out of the five Hauser Diet Types, but you should not get rid off all of the carbohydrates because your brain and body must have some carbohydrates every day in order to function optimally. Lions should consume complex carbohydrates only. Include foods such as whole grain rice, legumes, and oats, but only in small amounts.

10 Guidelines to Being a Lion

Eat protein with every meal! Because protein is the center of your diet, every meal should be centered around it. If you have a couple snacks that are more fat based, that’s okay. But your big meals should consist of mainly protein sources.

As a Lion a big part of your diet is fat, not just protein A Lion needs fat in their diet. See the Fat Forum

Stay away from low fat products.
The Lion Diet says you need fat. Not to mention a lot of those items may have added sugars in them instead of fat, not good for a Lion. So when it comes to peanut butter and salad dressings-go full fat!

Don’t buy low carb food items, such as bread. When we tell you to limit your carb intake, we don’t mean go out and purchase carbohydrate based foods that have been altered to be considered low carb. The limited amount of carbs you do have should be nutrient dense and natural.

You should eat often.

Lions tend to be people who need frequent meals in order to keep energy levels stable. Don’t wait until your starving to eat something, it’s too late then. That’s when you’re most likely to make bad nutritional decisions.

It’s okay to have protein shakes, but don’t rely on them for the majority of your protein intake.

Real food is always preferable because of the extra nutrients you get from it. Shakes are really good for those times when you’re in a hurry and for those people just starting out on a high protein diet and need some time to adjust. Having one a day is okay, but don’t plan all your meals around them.

Eating foods that are packaged and processed should be avoided. Not only does your Hauser Diet say eat protein and fat, it also says to eat natural. Your health will benefit greatly by eliminating processed foods that are full of food chemicals and things that are toxic to the body.

Meatless veggie burgers that are made with vegetables and grains are not great protein sources. These are mostly carbohydrate based, with just a little bit of needed protein. If you do purchase these items, make sure they are as natural as you can get, and be sure to get other protein sources in your daily diet.

Stay away from sugar and sugar products. Sugar and simple carbohydrates are not good for Lions. They deplete your energy, hurt your immune system, and promote quick weight gain!

Fruit should not be part of your diet! Sounds crazy right? You’re a Lion, and because we eliminate sugar on your diet, we also eliminate fruit. The majority of calories in fruit come from sugar. As for the good nutrients found in fruits like antioxidants, you will be able to those from other foods in your diet.

Take these ten tips of the trade and put them into practice. They will help you get the most out of your Hauser Lion Diet.

Mom Finds Energy with the Lion Diet
Andrea came to Caring Medical within hopes of improving her energy swings she was having everyday. Not only did Andrea home-school her two children, she also kept a very busy schedule. She noticed that no matter how “healthy” she ate, she could never have enough energy to get through the day. She ate organic food, drank herbal teas, and even eliminated gluten from her diet in hopes of an answer. Andrea decided to come to Caring Medical last summer and get Diet Typing to see what individual diet would work best for her energy levels.

Andrea’s Diet Typing results showed that she was in fact a fast oxidizer and had blood sugars that dipped below normal. She also had acidic pH. These two factors meant that Andrea would need to follow the Hauser Lion Diet, which is a very high protein and fat diet that helpsto prevent blood sugar and energy crashes and raise her blood pH back into the normal range.

After one month on the Hauser Lion Diet, Andrea returned to Caring Medical and reported that she couldn’t believe how much better she felt on the Lion Diet. She said that her energy was higher, she felt satisfied after each meal, and she didn’t crave food in between meals or snacks. In fact, she even attended a family camp for 2 weeks and was able to eat mostly meat and vegetables – she said she has never felt better! She was more than ready to begin another year of home-schooling and was confident she would have enough energy to get through each day.

This is a simple example of how knowing what foods your body needs can help you live and enjoy life to the fullest capacity. Eating right for your Diet Type is not necessarily about losing weight. Andrea didn’t have a weight problem. But she was tremendously tired.

Andrea, like many of our patients, “thought” she was eating “healthy.” But the question is – what IS healthy – for YOU? Just because the media says that fruits and carbs are healthy for the general public, doesn’t make them particularly healthy for you. In Andrea’s case, she was eating too many “healthy” fruits and carbs, which actually were un-healthy for her particular Hauser Diet Type. The great thing about Hauser Diet Typing is that you can know for sure what foods you need to eat in order to feel great. If you are interested in getting Hauser Diet Typing, we’d love to help you! Follow-up for Home School Mom
As you may know, the Hauser Lion Diet is the highest protein/fat diet of all the Hauser Diet Types. It is designed for people who have acidic blood pH and have proved to be fast oxidizers based on their modified glucose tolerance test. Sometimes this diet is prescribed only for a short while to balance a person’s blood pH, and then the person may be switched to the Otter Diet. However there are some people who need to follow this diet indefinitely – their bodies feel better and function better on this carnivorous diet.

Andrea noticed immediate changes on the diet and was very happy with her energy levels. Within one month she was noticing some serious changes, although she was still about 10 pounds overweight. After looking at her food diary, we determined that she was doing great on the diet. However when we asked about exercise, she admitted that she hadn’t had time to add that to her routine. We explained that the diet can help with a number of things, but exercise is a very important factor in overall health, especially when trying to lose weight. We pointed her in the right direction as to where to start with exercise and she was off to incorporate one more change to her lifestyle.

Seven months later she returned for a follow-up nutrition visit. We instructed her to continue with the Lion Diet and to let us know if anything changed with her energy or weight loss. But it seems that this busy mom has found the diet she had been looking for and now had made it a part of her life. Along with some exercise and continued positive thinking, she was sure to continue with feeling great!

Diabetes and the Lion
Ben, a busy business owner came to see us because he didn’t have the energy to "feel good and work hard" everyday. He had high cholesterol, headaches, and needed a diet that would help him lose the exhausted feeling he had in the middle of each day.
